Considering

We had been watching a lot of kids movies, but sort of ran out?  Or at least ran out of the passion for them for a little while.  Drama is out, as is action because it is too violent/intense for Margot’s sweetly impressionable mind.  We will have a big backlog of adult movies when/if (sigh) she goes to sleep on her own.  So with those restrictions in place we started going for comedy.  Somehow we decided on A Princess Bride. It was too dated or just not our style, I don’t know, we didn’t love it.  Then I recognized Christopher Guest and was reminded of Waiting For Guffman, which is hilarious, and kind of sad.  So then we watched them all:  Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. The only one we hadn’t seen before was For Your Consideration.  We liked it.  Ugh, it was definitely more melancholy than the others.  Each movie seems to get a little more bittersweet than the one before.  There were funny parts, for sure, but there were more parts that made us sort of ache for the poor characters.  I’m not usually one for movies about making movies, or books about writing books, etc., but this one was just right.  Not too self important.  It said a lot about how awful it must be in Hollywood, without making me feel like I was being hit over the head with MEANING.  I really like the balance of funny and sad they have going in their movies.  It was worth a watch.

We had a white pizza while we watched.  After a week of white sauces, it was a little much.  I think we were white sauced out.  Looking at the picture now, though, I would definitely make it again!  Only without the sauce or with some red sauce.  White sauce is kind of a lot of work that can get overlooked when there is already sweet soft dough and creamy cheese.  After all that indulgence we started talking about trying Paleo, but I can’t (don’t want to) get behind no peanuts.  I read some of the science.  I don’t get it.  Peanut butter is amazing.  I am probably made up of 60% peanut butter. However, the peanut butter jar is essentially empty as I type, and I didn’t buy anymore at the grocery the other day.  So we’ll see what happens.

The Pizza Above:

White Sauce with lots of Garlic

Roasted Broccoli

Sliced Tomatoes

Anchovies (1 per slice, of course)
